a simple fry bread: recipe to follow

stir it up, just til mixed

drop by rounded spoonfuls into pan with lard.

cast iron pan is the best


use two forks for maximum handling.

3/4 cup sugar

1tblsp baking powder

1 tsp. salt

1 3/4 cups cold water

place all in a large bowl,

"sift" together with a fork.

pour in cold water and stir until it's

a thick pancake batter consistency.

don't over mix.

makes 26 medium bannocks

*you can halve the recipe for lesser yield

Yesterday my sister pam and I decided to go and forage for some wild edibles like orange top mushrooms which we used to eat when we were younger, we found only ones that were less that edible. So we picked some tiny wild strawberries and enjoyed those instead.

Making hot sauce for my sweetheart


use jalapenos,garlic,salt, vinegar

place all in the blender........

And blend away!

It gets foamy

But, will settle once placed in a jar

easy no cook jalapeno sauce:
9 jalapenos, cored and seeded, unless you like heat, if so leave in, I left in half.
3-4 cloves garlic, peeled and rough chopped
1 tblsp salt, i used kosher
1/4 cup white vinegar

blend into a puree and pour into a clean jar. store in a cool dark place for 3 weeks until colour changes to a darker green, after that store in the refrigerator

Good morning all,9:30 here in Yukon, it's just now getting light outside. It certainly has me pining for spring, hearing the water dripping, feeling the sun on my face, waiting for the deep purple,silvery furry crocus to poke their heads through the snow. Anyway, just keeping busy, mainly knitting and finding wonderfull projects off the net and attempting them myself, I don't claim credit for any of the stuff I have posted, since a few have been inspired by others (thanks). The recipes and some items have been fully thought of and made by me, but I haven't posted any tutes as yet, that may be coming soon, as I am considering posting a video, we shall see. In the meantime, I will post more of my completed projects.----c'est moi.

Happy new Year!! hope your year was good to you. As for me, I have had a sad holiday season, because my beloved ones (elders) could not be with me. Thanks to my adult children and their spouses,and my spouse; they didn't know it, but they were integral to my survival of the holidays. I just concentrated on seeing my blessings,not the least of which is being able to go to different craft sites on the internet and seeing the plethora of talented people out there!! it's a way of getting the creative juices flowing. And just admiring their handiwork. In my life I have siblings that still care about me, and through the years our relationships have developed into great friendships, it's true you can't choose your relatives, but equally true, one can make an effort to befriend their own relatives, I am thankful for all that I have either material or ethereal. So let us all proceed with our year, doing the very best we can with what we have, and cherishing the love and friendship in our lives.

Here it is December! already, I am sending out good vibes to everyone reading this. Hello all, sorry I haven't blogged in a while, the room with my computer in it was so clogged there wasn't even a trail leading over to it!! I used to run a little shop in town, that made all sorts of personalized items, and it seemed to go well for the first year, unfortunately, in it's second year i made the decision to move to a larger shop, more rent and utilites later.......... I had to close. I feel sad but wiser, I live in a tiny trailer, so it has not been fun to try and find spaces for everything that was in the shop. Anyway, all that aside I have been surfing the web and finding projects to do, I certainly make crafts of my own but I don't do tutorials on how to, perhaps that will come later. hello from me, hope you're enjoying your summer so far, here it is august already, i have been busy trying to glean fun out of the summer sunshine while i can. we have a 70's motor home and we travel around in it, and just enjoy being yukoners. we like to go to skagway or haines sometimes and visit all the fairs and food events they have there, or just to go and breathe in the smell of the sea and hear the squawk of the gulls hovering over the bay. And inevitably we must scrub the sand or dirt off our little travelling companion scamp, he's a shitzu (yitzu) yukon shitzu. Anyway I will add pics Asap. Take care now.

Okay, so were not exactly at the top of the world, but sometimes, it feels like it takes so long for the earth to tilt it's face enough so the sun can kiss us. It is relatively warm here now, about 0 degrees celcius. Which is warm to me anyway, the winter wasn't too badly heinous. I am at work, thinking: what can I possibly blog on here that would be remotely interesting. It reminds me of an episode of house I saw recently where this woman blogged almost every waking moment, and even blogged about her personal relationship, much to the anger of her husband, anyway she blogged even when she became deathly ill, long story short: she got better and her husband accepted her blogging. Hmmm... lemme see now crafts? yes, I made some button creations! I saw it on someones blog and o course, I had to try it. And gotta take her word for it, hot glue does not hold them together, as I found out, had to re-glue with alleen's jewel it glue, we'll see how that holds up. I made necklaces, barrettes, and silk flowers with buttons in the middle for scrap embellishments. I recently got a bind it all off the net, I love it, but can't seem to come up with ideas for it, just made some rather plain books, I still love it!! I also acquired a big kick cutter recently, me and my daughter happened upon a after christmas sale and scooped it!! love it, but I only got about 4 different dies and wish for more. In any case, in the town where we live, wall mart is it for craft stuff!! no Michaels or anything like that. We can order off the net, but the shipping costs are just killer!! Not so bad for me though, since I have a little shop in a little mall (out of the way). Okay, sending out good vibes to anyone who should happen accross my ramblings, hope your life is going good. Good Day all, I am doing well having gone through the worst part of winter. Went for a walk along the river and the ice was beginning to break up and the snow is melting and running in great rivulets along the black paved path. The air was so pure that i noted to my husband that we couldn't get any purer oxygen if we had a tank and breathing aparatus hooked up. Anyway, I will have more to put on here once we start to travel in the early spring and mid-summer. In the meantime, I can post some photos. caio for now.

I made jam with my daughter, we used grocery strawberries, we do have wild strawberries here, but they are as big as the eraser on a pencil, heavy on the flavour.

Here's hoping that we are all beginning a good new year, holding on to the good things and letting the bad things slide off the edge of the world into the abyss. If not, we must go and seek out a happier life in some small (or large) way.As for me, I have had a good year 09, have been able to be with my best friend, who is my husband, have been in my children's company, have seen my son marry his pretty lady, have shared the news that my daughter became engaged to the man she is in love with. Have celebrated 28 years with my husband, have kept the sweet memories of my mom and dad close inside my heart. Have shared happy and sad times with those wonderful people within my circle; And so many other events that help me to know that even though I don't have a huge bank account, a wonderful estate etc. etc, I feel as though I have things that enrich my life and make me glad to be here in this plane.

Good Day all!! Hope you're having a good day so far, if not, take courage and trust that things will get better, that usually works with me. Anyway, it's about -14 degrees celcius out today. I feel a bit guilty since the rest of the country is experiencing extreme lows!! And here we are in Yukon, only a piddly - 14! shoot! we could take that easily!! it's the - 40 below for a month that gets to you. This might be the only time I get to blog until after Christmas, since we are getting busy at our little shop. I have been doing my usual, roaming about the virtual world searching for easy to make gifts and great recipes for two. The river in our town is not totally frozen, but the edges are and there are clumps of ice floating by. Not like when I was a kid, we used to be able to have festivals right out on the ice!! like dog races and such, now the ice would be too unstable. Anyway, that's all for now, as for crafting, I have attempted to do some wire work, will post some of my past pieces and any that I manage to do. Oh, and the jarred beef was fantastic! the meat was tenderized from the pressure cooking process, but for sure I should have poured broth into the jars first.

Why do I often feel so Blah! on Mon. Morning? I run a little shop, and go by my own hours etc, so why can't I be grateful for that, maybe it's over twenty years of working for others and feeling that way on a Monday. Anyway, I'm here and that's all that counts. Here in Yukon, it's snowy and dark oftentimes, and then blammo! we have the most beautiful sunshine on some days. But it's nine months of inclement weather, by the time you think you can't stand anymore of it, the water starts dripping and it's spring. Can't wait. To keep from going: stir crazy, insane, buckhouse, stark raving mad; you must keep busy, You can either drink copious amounts of alcohol, or enjoy outdoor activities,or do crafts or hobbies, I do all of the above, and in between waiting for customers at my shop, I do this, BLOG. At first, I worried everyone would laugh at me, then I realized, hardly anyone reads this. So, I combine all of the above and blog about it. For example, I started creating little recipes to make my life easier, like jarring food. The latest one is jarred ground beef, to see if it would make my life easier, The only thing about it, is, most definately pour broth over it, I will do that before I jar it, if I ever make it again, I did it so that when I get home I can just pop it into a brownie pan, add flour, heat til it makes a gravy, cover with my pre mashed potatoes I have in the fridge, et voila! home cooked food in short order. Because it's just my husband and me now living in a small trailer, (and our shih-tzu) I needed to start making some food for two, after over twenty years of being a mom to 2 boys and a girl, it was hard to do. Had to throw out a lot of leftovers. Anyway, I'll add pics of my efforts and of our Dog, Scamp. I will post these pics in the photo tab. labeled: MMB

Hello, and hope this post reaches you healthy and happy. I am doing okay, Still grasping at straws in regards to my creativity(or lack of) I am still pretty stunted as far as craft creativity, but thank GS that I still am able to be creative with cooking and knitting and crocheting, since these are some of the first things I started to do as a young girl, my creative block wasn't able to touch them too badly, and they saved my sanity. I started making large pots of home made chicken soup and jarring them, what a total lifesaver when you are tired and hungry, they are as easy as a can of soup, minus all the unknown ingredients which go in. from one kind of broth type soup, you can make, chicken and dumplings,chicken pot pie, or just have it plain. YUM!! I am going to try jarring a shepards pie type filling and see what comes of that.
A thank you going out to all the wonderfull people who craft and blog it, I get to go to your site and glean some of that wonderful feeling that you get from creating!! Now if only I could jar that!!!- sandra.

Today is October 2nd and we have wet snow coming down, I know it won't stick but it sure gives you a shiver and makes you think of what's in store for us northerners. I think I will put a link to this blog on my other server. See if anyone checks it. anyway. we are currently working on jarring up some vegetarian chili. If it works out I could put a recipe on here, and some Pictures. I am also working on learning how to use circular knitting needles, learned it pretty quick, but by God! they are some awkward!! Trying to get back into doing my crafty stuff, but if you've been blocked, then what are you to do? I know one thing, that is I can throw away a lot more of my hoarded "stuff" when I am not feeling creative. But I still recyce as much as possible, I made a bag from plastic grocery bags. Ugly, but it works. K that's it more later.

Just thinkin: I have used the same plastic baggies over and over til they get holes in em' then I use em for storing craft stuff!! have been recycling for 2 years now, seems like we've always recycled pop wine beer bottles for the deposit money. Today I read on someones blog to use shirts for : little girls simple dresses, and then I thought," I could use it to make a bucket hat" since the ones I buy are always too small. anyway, my daily thoughts are always occupied by: how's mom? and what shall we bring for lunch? and what can I make for dinner tonight? and how can I recycle that???

Wow! it has been eight months since I last put fingers to keyboard on this communications thingy!! anyway, many things have happened. Life just kept going like a wheel in a giant time-peice. There have been births, deaths, marriages. A kaleidascope of emotions flashing by if you stop to think on it too long. I am doing okay,but for the naggy little regular aches and pains which happen to a 40-something year old! Have traveled a bit, just spend each day with my sweetheart, and our bothersome,but extremely cute Shih-tzu Scamp AKA : Scampers, scampie, Rot-dog, and tons of other nick-names. Well, I haven't been doing a whole lot of crafting, but I'll includes some when I do. adieu till next time.

recipe for crock pot chicken= 1 good sized chicken 4 lbs or so, bbq sauce (your fave) chopped onion, garlic, red pepper. We used a PC brand crock pot that has high and low settings and a timer. We rinsed the chicken, put it in pot, dowsed it in bbq sauce, threw the aromatics on and set it for low, we slow cooked for 5 hours. over 6 and it turns into (pull pork type) mush.

Just popping in to talk about my world corner= Yukon!! Cold and snowy it's minus 15 celcius out there, and the wind is making it colder. That's about +5 fahrenheight!! Anyway, for those busy individuals: Quick tuna Casserol:: you need: 1 can tuna, 2 cups egg noodles, 1 can cheese or cr. of mushroom soup, 1/2 cup chopped green onions, 1/2 cup grated cheddar. Boil pasta for 8-10 mins, drain and stir in the tuna, the soup(thinned with water) the onions, the cheese. Mix all and add to a brownie pan and top with more cheddar. Bake 350 F for 35 mins or until bubbly and brown on top. Yummy and easy!!! good combination when you're tired. Enjoy!!

Hello all, I am having an okay day so far, although I haven't added any art or craft projects to this blog as I had planned to do. In any case, I went for my lunch time walk, I have a little i-pod that my daughter gave me and I plug the music into my head and just gum-boot!! I just don't know what to do when I get those e-mails that say you must mail this to 9 or 10 people and something good will happen to you in 9 or 10 minutes!! do people have nothing better to do than to create these "do this or else" e-mails?? I just delete them but sometimes I think"why does everything have to have conditions?" Anyway, I feel so great walking or swimming, it really puts my mind and thoughts in a peacefull place. It's October now, almost Halloween, there is a skiff of snow on the ground, so I don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep walking along the river. There is a nice paved path to walk on, but often they don't clear it well enough and it can be hazardous! I have come accross some great blogs, they talk about all the nice stuff I like, crochet, food, family and that type of thing. I can't stand those blogs that denigrate into dirty language and innuendoes etc. I mean sure, the occasional cuss word, but mostly= clean is better!!

I just feel sad about things that happen to people, untimely and unjustifiable deaths!! it puts a sadness inside your mind and you keep going back to it and wonder why?? All I can do is say a prayer to the creator for strength and compassion for these people. Having lost someone close recently, it was all the sadder for me, Although I think to lose someone to violence or an accident has got to be so devastating. My prayers and well wishes go out to them. Creator give them strength and healing.

Today was one of those days where I felt like I should go home, go back to bed, get up and try again. Every-effing-thing went wrong today, the gas station machine wouldn't accept my card and I had a few words with the attendant. Then I went to the bank to straighten out the issues with my elderly mom's card, I wound up talking to a teller who didn't know her ass from her elbow and just advised me to accept things, she said I'm sorry, I can't help you. I lost my computer connection umpteen times. Just felt like crap, so I went online and visited a "vlog" to see some altered art, and start watching what I thought was a good one, because they always make me feel great, or at least get the creative juices flowing, but as I watched, I realized it was this woman's way of impressing her religious beleifs upon crafty people, but at least she wasn't too rightious, and she was truly talented, so I left a not too stinging message to her and went on my way.

Monday morning blues

Today, Monday sept. 22nd. Feel kinda lonely and like I don't wanna be here at my job. I created this job for myself, trying to be self-sufficient, since I have worked for others all of my adult and part of my childhood life. I have : scrubbed toilets and washed out garbage cans, I have mopped giant floors, with heavy mops. I have cleaned up all sorts of human waste(you figure what it is) I have filled sandbags and sold them, I've sold avon, i've sold many different items promising a good living. For someone who didn't graduate and who didn't even make it to grade 9, I guess I didn't do too badly for myself, I'm sure it was in large part due to the wonderfull man I met and married too young i'm sure. I was raised up in the 1970's and in the traditional First Nations way, for those of you who haven't heard, that's what we refer to ourselves as. For the First Time in history, we decided what we would be called. The most rewarding things I've ever done are: caring for my children, making a home for my husband and children and caring for my grandma and grandpa, and also for my Mom and Dad. Both my Grandparents are now on their spiritual journey accross the other plane. I have also had to say goodbye for now to my beloved Dad whom I know is winging his way to somewhere beautifull. I now care for my Mom, I try to see her every week, and to take her somewhere often. I run a little shop making personalized items, I love to work on the computer and enjoy when people love the stuff we make for them. BML(blog more later)

The inaugeral blogeral

It is Friday September 19th. This will be the first of what I hope will be many bogs. I chose this blog creater because of it's simplicity and for how fast I can type on it. I haven't added photos yet, so it is yet to be commented on. I just wanted to have a forum in which I could add pics of all my art projects, failures and successes. Also a place I could communicate with people. I have tried so many different blog creaters and have found myriad glitches. This one seems to be ticking along just great. Now we shall see about the communications part of it.
